Which firmness rating should you order?
Regardless of your chosen firmness rating, the top layer of your mattress will remain the same. This means you’ll still enjoy the same level of comfort and pressure relief that you’d expect up top.
When you upgrade to a firmer feel, the bottom layer is swapped for a more supportive, higher density foam. This helps to provide you with a better level of support, as well as preventing you from sinking into the mattress as much.
For those that like their mattress to have a little more ‘give’, the standard firmness rating is usually the preferred choice.
Weight considerations
Under 15 stone?
If you weigh less than 15 stone, you can opt for any firmness rating providing your mattress has a thickness of 13cm or above. If thickness is less than 13cm, we recommending upgrading to our firmer feel for enhanced support.
Over 15 stone?
If you weigh 15 stone and above (but less than 20 stone), be sure to upgrade to our firmer feel for enhanced support.

Finally got round to replacing our old M&S mattress with this ComfiCel Gel foam one. What a difference – I suffer with my back and have never slept so well! My husband and I have noticed that we don’t roll into each other and whilst the bed gives firm support it is not hard and feels like you are sleeping on air. ComfiCel Gel Foam Mattress – great mattress and comes with a good quality thick zip cover. This mattress is very comfortable and I would recommend it. It is solid yet comfortable and supportive. When my partner gets out of bed I am totally unaware as it supports me separately to him. The cooling top works not allowing us to get too hot. After we bought 2 ComfiCel Gel Foam mattresses for our newly acquired static caravan, we soon realised after sleeping on the double mattress that came with the caravan that it was our immediate needs that should have been addressed, and not that of our guests. We placed the mattresses on the double base and have had excellent comfort from them, unfortunately we do tend to slip down the middle, so we again phoned Myles at Custom Size beds to see if it was possible to make a double size cover to fit both the mattresses into, this they have done. we take the new cover to he caravan tomorrow and I have absolutely no doubt that we should not have any further bother. the mattresses and the service that Custom Size Beds supply are second to none and I have no problem recommending them to anyone.

This is the perfect mattress, I have a severe muskoskeletal disease and sleep is a painful experience for me, I have paid literally thousands on a bed at home, but had to upgrade my new van mattress as it was really painful, what can I say it is better than my home bed, it is like sleeping on air, the perfect balance of support and softness and no sweating like with memory foam.

This is the first time i have ever written a review and the reason i am doing it is because it has been a hard time finding the right mattress online. My Wife and I spent ages looking online and visiting shops to try and find the right mattress. We bought from another company and had to return it as it was horrible. Then after more research i decided to take the plunge and go for this one. We went with the Flat top version. I have to say after a long time looking and making mistakes buying a cheaper version we have finally had a good night sleep. This is by far the best mattress i have slept on in my life and anyone looking for a good firm but soft top mattress look no further this is the one for you.
I am only writing this review because it was so hard to decide which one to buy, if you are the same as me and have been looking for ages trust me this is the one for you, you will not regret it.
Also the company themselves are extremely helpful and the customer service is what you hope every online business can be like. They originally delivered the wrong type and sorted it within a few days.

We absolutely love the mattress, and really could not wait to try it. We unwrapped it and left it to open up at home for the best part of a week , and then transferred it into our motor home for a weekend away. And then – when we did get to try it … oh my oh my… it is just so comfy and one of the best nights sleep we have had. In fact – it is the BEST nights sleep in the motor home. (When we bought it, the motor home was 2 x years old and I think the previous keeper must have weighed about 30 stone as there was a huge dent in the middle of the previous bed. This meant that both myself and my hubby rolled in towards each other and usually spent most of the night hanging on to the each of our sides!!)

Of all the elements that are required to fit out a narrowboat it was the bed arrangements that was giving me most concern. I purchased a new mattress for my 2019 swift caravan in July 2020 the mattress was delivered in October 2020 and installed into the caravan on 2nd October. Unfortunately due to tiers 3/4 and a national lockdown the van has had no use.
On entering the caravan 6th March 2021 I noticed that the mattress was extremely damp all around the edges. I contacted the company who asked me to provide further photos which I did and upon removing the cover of the mattress it was obvious that the mattress has changed colour around the edge where it’s absorbed the humidity in the air. I have spoken to Myles Hardy who is registered as director on companies house. He has completed an investigation and advised the company cannot refund or exchange my mattress. I simply want a mattress that is fit for purpose. The companies response is contradictory stating that foam will absorb moisture. This company makes mattresses for caravans so make of that what you will. The company has wiped there hands of the mattress. I was hoping we could have resolved this issue amicably but the director believes his product is fit for purpose even though his final response is contradictory. I have options left as the final consumer but it’s an awful shame the company can’t resolve this without legislation. If your reading this you’ll make your own mind up if you want to buy one or not. This is purely my experience.

We take all complaints seriously and have spent several weeks discussing your concerns, as well as investigating this in detail.
During the course of the investigation, you confirmed on several occasions that your mattress was completely dry upon arrival, and claim it “absorbed humidity from the air.”
We sought independent assessment from a Development Technologist at one of Europe’s leading foam manufacturers. He stated, in his 12 years of industry experience, he has never encountered a case where foam has “absorbed humidity from the air” – particularly not to the extent and or degree that you have claimed.
He explained that while foam can absorb moisture, this would only occur if it came into direct contact with liquid or extreme humidity. Under normal conditions, foam (like any other material used in mattress production) remains completely dry and fit for purpose.
Given the highly localised and concentrated area of liquid shown in your images, this suggests strongly that the moisture originated from a leak or another external escape of liquid.
With regard to the discolouration observed, this phenomenon is entirely separate from any issue related to moisture. All polyethylene foams naturally yellow with time, when exposed to light and air. This normal oxidation process and does not affect the performance, comfort, or longevity of the mattress in any way.
While we appreciate that this is not the outcome you were seeking, all available evidence indicates that the issue arose from direct liquid exposure several months after delivery, which falls entirely outside of our control.
We’re genuinely sorry that you’re unhappy with this outcome, but we hope this helps to provide further clarity.

Fantastic service from start to finish. We wanted a mattress for our Swift Charisma caravan. I used the template on the website to record the measurements but just to be certain, I made a full sized template from cardboard to make final checks and adjustments to the size before ordering. I phoned them and spoke to their adviser too.
We chose the middle quality option with the better tempur top. It arrived within three weeks of ordering and was very well packed. It comes rolled and vacuum packed which made handling and transportation much easier. I unwrapped it inside the caravan.

A most excellent mattress. The guide to measuring for our new mattress was straightforward and easy to do. They delivered exactly when they said they would and it was quite an experience watching it grow once unwrapped!

We’ve have bought three of these mattresses now and have been impressed with all of them. They are supportive without being overly firm and don’t overheat you like usual memory foam does. We have one on a sprung bed base, one in a firm base and one on the slatted base in our caravan. All are incredibly comfortable. We both have back and neck issues but not any more with the new mattresses. I now get up without pain in the morning. Very pleased indeed. Highly recommended.

The depth of the mattress was another area we were unsure of, but our sales assistant helped us to decide which depth would be right for our make and model motorhome.

We have a Tempura mattress at home due to my arthritis issues, which is good, but the RevitaLift Foam Mattress – Split Island we bought for our caravan is so good, that following our recent caravan holiday, we came home and had another night in the caravan on our drive as it was so comfortable.

I had the best night sleep in a long time the first night using this mattress and it only dawned on me after that i had absolutely no joint pain or stiffness getting out if bed since…. Truly remarkable. My bed is not a double and not quite a king size – just in between. So it was difficult finding the perfect mattress. I was so delighted to stumble upon this company where I could select the perfect size mattress for my bed frame, with the added benefits. My mattress arrived quickly. Customer service was great. Took 48hours to fully expand, but I was told I can start using after 6 hours being mindful that it will not have the desired benefits until fully expanded. I chose medium/firm. It still feels a tad bit too firm for me as I am used to a softer mattress. However, I sleep very well and no more stiffness nor joint pain so no complaints.

After phoning and speaking to a very helpful and informative receptionist ( which I find these days is a novelty in its self -1) a human answering the phone and 2)understanding their products enough to be able to answer all my queries!! ) we ordered our first mattress from custom mattresses.
The shape we needed had two small cut outs in the corners which we were quite concerned about whether it would fit properly.
We also had an issue with timing as we were due to go away in our new camper van one week later and needed it for then.
When the mattress arrived – well within the time scale we could not believe how well made it was and it did actually fit perfectly in our van. Phew!!
As for comfort , it is wonderful, and we both slept well.
Basically, from the staff on the phone to the end product I cannot recommend Custom Size Beds enough. Constant communication along the process was also great.
